Assignment 1 (English for Business & Science II)

This blog assignment is going to present my view on how things in my life will change both in the next five years and in the next fifty years. I will start off this assignment with the next five years.

This summer I will graduate from the university of Karlstad with a bachelor degree in information systems. Due to this fact my first thought on the next five years will be:
Will I get a job that I am going to be happy with?
With the finacial storm just passing the job market doesn't look to bright but as someone close to me said "there are always jobs available to those who are reilly good at what their doing". With that in mind I hope to show some employer just that. So that is the first thing I see in the near future, getting a job I like.

The next thing I see in the near future might be proposing to my girlfriend and getting married with her. Maybe. I have nothing planned or anything, just thinking about it. Nothing definitely.:-)

If these two parts of my life turns out the way I planned then I would like to build my own house. Not completely on my own of course but I would like to do as much as possible by my self. This part may belong to the second part of the assignment, the part that deals with the next six to 50 years.

I must say when looking at what I have written so far, it feels a little like a game of domino. If the first piece falls the rest will also fall or at least be pushed away a bit in time. Maybe that's how life is supposed to be but the "getting-a-work-anxiety" isn't getting any less significant by writing it down...

  1. Hello Danne,

I can relate too much of the things you hope will happen in future life, as it are similar to what I want. I liked the domino metaphor which seems about right, without a job the domino effect will likely not occur. It's kind of sad that a job is a key to most of the things in life.

Hopefully we've made the right choice of education and love our jobs, but I wonder if we will stick to it. It's probably not totally inconceivable that I make a switch later in life. Do you think you will stick to information systems until you retire?

    Best Regards

  2. Nice reading Danne! You have some thoughtful parables. I some how got your domino effect parable on my mind, it makes perfect sense! Sadly to say, to get a job after one have finished one's studies is the most important thing. Without a job it's hard to get on with one's life.

But... I am confident that you will succeed with finding a good job with which you are satisfied.

  3. Hi Danne,
I must say, your positive attitude and outlook on coming days sure is nice to read, about an upcoming marriage (even though, as you wrote not definite; congratulations anyway), school and your dreams of building your own house.

As for the examination from school and “job-hunting” issue. As a highly educated individual in an eventual economic upswing (nationwide), and the overall state of recovery from the financial “shit-storm” during 2008, I think that you will find the job of your dreams (without a doubt).

Thank you for your optimistic words and the savvy “domino” -metaphor, it brightened my day :)

  4. First I would like to say congratulation to your upcoming graduation.
Your first question, I think everybody thinks of before/when they study. It is a serious question that I now struggle with.
I think it is easier for you to get work now as a new graduated student then for someone that has been working for a couple of years. People would employ you because you have the experience from school, but now they can also show you how they want things done. Some people that do have experience could think they know everything and therefore make a decision that does not suet the company (in some cases). You will therefore get a bigger range of opportunities, to find a job you like.
I think as you said. When the work is settled everything will fall on its place. Unfortunately, I think, the working part is the most important part.

I very much enjoyed reading your thoughts! They make such good sense and you are very right. One thing depends on the other - and I really hope you will find a good job soon. I thought IT-people were in high demand?

Wishing you a wonderful life and may all your dreams come true!
